The *Area of Emphasis in Mathematical Statistics* opens a window of job opportunities in the business, government, industry, and health sectors; and provides a sound preparation for further studies in statistics. Students pursuing a major in *Pure Mathematics* or *Applied Mathematics* may also pursue an *Area of Emphasis in Mathematical Statistics*; additional coursework may be required. The *Area of Emphasis in Mathematical Statistics* is not intended for students pursuing a major in *Mathematical Statistics*.
