Capstone and Independent Study Forms and Resources
Ensure that you (or your mentors) are complete and descriptive as you fill out forms, and that you meet the deadlines specified in the instructions. Failure to do so may result in delays in your grades or graduation. If you have any questions, contact the Capstone/Independent Study Coordinator:

Research Capstone
- Research Capstone Instructions, Due Dates, and Submission Form – A full list of requirements for you and your Project Mentor.
- Research Capstone Mentor’s Agreement Form – Guidelines for your research mentor (only needed if mentor is not BSC faculty).
- Research Capstone Mentor’s Evaluation Form– To be filled out by your project mentor at the end of the Research Capstone project (only needed if mentor is not BSC faculty).
Shadowing Capstone
- Shadowing Capstone Instructions, Due Dates, and Submission Form – A full list of requirements for you and your Clinical Mentor.
- Shadowing Capstone Mentor’s Agreement Form – Guidelines for your clinical mentor.

Independent Study (Undergraduate)

Student Research Support
- Research Scholars Award – Awarded by the Faculty Senate. Spring and Fall deadlines are around February 1 and October 1, see the form for exact deadlines.
- Marshall University SURE Program– The Summer Undergraduate Research Experience provides competitive students with a stipend to work on research through the summer.
- Biological Sciences Travel Award Application– BSC students who are presenting their research at a scientific meeting may apply for funding from the Lab Manual Royalty Fund to help offset travel and/or registration costs.
- MURC undergraduate funding opportunities– Various programs are posted on the Marshall University Research Corporation web site.
- WV NASA– NASA funds many types of undergraduate and graduate research, see their website for more details.
