Services Available to Graduates

Congratulations on your graduation from Marshall University! As you prepare for your next chapter, we want to help you wrap up a few important technology‑related items before you transition to alumni status.

After graduation, Marshall University provides alumni with continued access to select technology services for up to two (2) years, provided the account remains active. This transition period is designed to give you time to retrieve files, update personal accounts, and plan for long‑term technology needs.

Remember that the use of university technology resources requires adherence to the University IT policies and procedures. www.marshall.edu/board/board-of-governors-policies/#IT

Violation of policies will result in the termination of your account.  Marshall University reserves the right to modify or terminate your service for any reason, without notice.

During this 24‑month alumni access period, you may continue to use provided the account stay active:

  • Your MUNet account
  • Your @marshall.edu email address
  • Microsoft 365 services: Graduates have 24 months (2 years) after graduation to establish your own personal subscription.
  • OneDrive storage associated with your Marshall account with a 24 month (2 year) period to migrate your OneDrive data before it goes away with MU.
  • Campus Wi‑Fi access when visiting Marshall facilities.

To keep your account active, log in to the MyMU portal or your @marshall.edu email through a web browser at least once every six months, as accessing email only from a mobile device may not always register account activity. You are strongly encouraged to back up files, migrate data, and update personal account email addresses before the end of this period, as access will expire after two years.

Important Reminder: If you used your Marshall email address for personal or third‑party services (such as banking, job searches, social media, or subscriptions), please update those accounts to a personal email address to avoid losing access in the future.

MUIT Service Desk Support

The MUIT Service Desk continues to support alumni with MUNet account and email‑related assistance. Support for other technology services is limited to current students and employees.

  • Wi‑Fi: Alumni may use MU Wi‑Fi when visiting campus as long as the MUNet account remains active.
  • MyMU Portal: Available for up to two years for access to student records, transcript requests, and MyPay (for student employee W‑2 forms).
  • MU Alert: MU Alert enrollment is based on enrollment per semester. Any graduate not continuing an education or employment at Marshall University will be unenrolled from the service.

Campus ID Office Support

The Campus ID Office can assist you with questions and issues related to Door Access and Herd Points.

  • Door Access: Access to campus buildings is based on current enrollment or special authorization.
  • Herd Points: Points do not expire, but must be used at least once a year.  There is an inactivity fee after 1 year.  If your balance is $5.00 or more you can have it refunded to you by check by contacting the MUID Office for a refund request.
  • Adobe Creative Cloud: Access remains available while your MUNet account is active and registered for classes; Adobe provides graduation transition options (see below).
  • Credly: If you earned digital badges using your Marshall email, add a personal email to retain access.
  • Other Software: Some applications are limited to currently enrolled students or employees and may no longer be available after graduation.

TechTip: If you purchase Microsoft 365 or Adobe Creative Cloud subscriptions, you can log out of your Marshall account and log in with your new username and password to continue using without having to reinstall.  Remember if you have files stored in your Marshall OneDrive be sure to move your files to a personal account or upgrade to a personal Microsoft subscription.
