Banned Books 2016 – Cal

Marshall University does not ban books! The information is provided to let people know what has been banned/challenged elsewhere.

2016

Challenged as required reading in the Rumson-Fair Haven (NJ) high school because the novel is “too sexually explicit for high school teens.” The novel has been on and off the required reading list for juniors over recent years. An ad-hoc committee of teachers, school board members, and a parent determined the novel was age-appropriate for the district’s juniors and seniors. Published in 1983, the novel is about a young Irish Catholic man involved in the Irish Republican Army who falls in love with the wife of a man murdered in an incident in which he was a getaway driver.
