You Are Not Alone
All emotional responses to sexual misconduct are normal. You may feel upset, calm, or anything in between. Everyone copes differently. Resist the urge to blame yourself or think you should have done something differently. When you’re ready, reach out to someone you trust and use available resources. We are here to help.
If You Are in Immediate Danger
- Call 911 or Marshall University Police Department (MUPD) at 304-696-4357 (HELP).
- From any campus phone, dial 6-4357.
- Use one of the 30+ emergency/service help phones located throughout the Huntington campus for direct contact with the police dispatcher, available 24/7.
- For 24/7 crisis support, contact the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 800-656-4673.
Important Update: Online Reporting Transition
Beginning October 27, 2025, the Title IX Office will move to an online-only reporting system. This change reflects a growing trend among Title IX offices nationwide and is designed to help us better serve our campus community.
Our goal is to ensure that Title IX reports are reviewed promptly and thoroughly. In-person and phone submissions, while often well-intentioned, can sometimes involve complex concerns that fall outside the scope of Title IX. These conversations, though important, can require significant time and follow-up, which may delay our ability to respond to Title IX matters with the urgency they deserve.
By centralizing reports through our secure online system, we can more efficiently triage concerns, prioritize Title IX cases, and maintain a consistent and equitable response process for all students, faculty, and staff.
To report an incident of sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, or stalking, use the secure reporting form:
- Submit an Online Title IX Report Here
Anonymous reporting is available for individuals who are not Marshall employees. Mandated reporters (such as faculty, staff, and certain student employees) cannot file anonymously and must include their name and contact information when submitting a report.
Please note: Due to staff availability, it may take up to five business days for your report to be reviewed.
Contact the Marshall University Counseling Center for immediate support:
- Prichard Hall, First Floor
- 304-696-3111
- Marshall University Counseling Center
We appreciate your understanding and remain committed to supporting a safe, respectful, and inclusive campus environment.
Other options to report:
- Tell a Marshall Employee: Resident Advisors, Area Coordinators, faculty, and staff are mandated reporters and will forward your information to the Title IX Office for appropriate response.
- Call MUPD: 304-696-4357 (HELP) or 911 in emergencies.
Accountability Options
You may pursue accountability through the University, through law enforcement, or both. If the alleged perpetrator is not affiliated with Marshall, disciplinary options may be limited, but supportive measures are still available.
Medical Attention
Hospitals are required by law to report sexual offenses, but you are not required to press charges at that time. You can choose to do so later. Hospitals will not notify the University unless you request it.
What Happens After You Report
- The Title IX Office reviews your report promptly.
- You will be offered supportive measures (academic adjustments, counseling, housing changes) with or without filing a formal complaint.

Your privacy matters.
- Confidential Resources: Designated confidential resources, such as counselors and health services, will not share your information with anyone unless you give consent.
- Responsible Employees: Faculty and staff may be required to report to the Title IX Office.
Supportive Measures
