Marshall community to remember Dr. Martin Luther King Monday

Share

Marshall University will help celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 18, in the Joan C. Edwards Performing Arts Center. The event will include a host of activities honoring the late civil rights leader.

The traditional march, which had been scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m., has been canceled due to a forecast of extreme weather conditions. However, the Black United Students organization will sponsor a campus march at 4:45 p.m. Monday, beginning in the Memorial Student Center lobby on Marshall’s Huntington campus.

Dr. Jerome Gilbert, Marshall’s incoming president, will be among the speakers at the 5:30 p.m. event. Other features will include the Marshall University Chamber Choir, a video, a vocal performance, liturgical dance and a presentation by the American Dream Movement.

A reception with refreshments and a time for socializing will follow.
