A fourth-year medical student at the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine has matched into an ophthalmology residency position through a specialized national matching process called the San Francisco Match.
Michael S. Tanner will enter an ophthalmology residency in July 2017 at the University of Virginia.
“We are very pleased for Michael that he matched into his first choice for an ophthalmology position,” said Amy Smith, M.Ed., assistant dean for student affairs. “This is a prestigious and competitive match that reflects well on Michael’s hard work and dedication to his education, as well as on our school of medicine.”
Ophthalmology residencies begin after the resident completes an internship year. Tanner will also participate in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) to determine where he will spend his preliminary year.
This year’s NRMP’s Match Day is scheduled for Friday, March 18.
