Sustainability Fair is Saturday at Central City in Huntington

The 2nd Annual Huntington Sustainability Fair will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at The Wild Ramp, 555 14th St. W. in Huntington’s Central City and at the Central City Gazebo.

The fair will feature booths, demos, live music, tech recycling, rain barrel workshops and more.

Tour DePATH will again offer their annual bike ride along the Paul Ambrose Trail for Health. There are three route options: 4 miles, 10 miles, and 26 miles. There is no fee, and community cyclists of all ages are invited to participate. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The Marshall University Recreation Center has agreed to be open at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, so that students, staff, faculty and Rec Center members will have the option of checking out an Eco-Bike in time to ride down to 14th St. West and participate in the Tour DePATH event at 10 a.m.

Goodwill Industries will be making infinity scarves from old clothes and offering free recycling of technology such as tablets, phones, laptops and printers. Marshall University’s Environmental Health and Safety Department and the West Virginia Conservation Agency, will be hosting a rain barrel workshop at 1 p.m., which will feature a drawing for a free rain barrel. The first 25 participants in the Green Challenge will win a bag of free “Green Swag.”

Other fair participants include area crafters, artisans, food trucks, greenhouses and farmers. Following the fair, the Ohio Valley Environmental Coalition will be hosting a reception and film showing of “Fridays at the Farm” and “Cowspiracy-The Sustainability Secret” from 4:15 to 7 p.m. at their offices at 725 14th St. W.

The Huntington Sustainability Fair project is a cooperative effort by Sustainable Living for West Virginia, the Marshall University Sustainability Department, the Wild Ramp, the Ohio Valley Environmental Coalition, the Old Central City Association, Tour DePATH, the City of Huntington, Greater Huntington Park and Recreation District and many more.
