Biography

As STEAM & Innovation Specialist at Marshall University’s June Harless Center for Rural Educational Research and Development, Jason Gibbs designs and delivers professional learning that strengthens STEAM capacity and cultivates cultures of inquiry, innovation, and problem-solving for students and educators. His work also includes facilitating collaborative inquiry projects to support meaningful school improvement, drawing on training from the Harvard Graduate School of Education in Instructional Rounds and Data Wise.

Jason was recently named an Innovation Catalyst through Marshall University’s iCenter, where he used design thinking to develop new strategies for improving professional learning for PK–12 educators. Prior to joining the Harless Center, he spent 14 years as a high school teacher in rural West Virginia, launching the state’s first Project Lead the Way Biomedical Science program. In one notable project, his students applied design thinking to reduce avoidable carcinogen exposure among local firefighters.

Jason believes in the interconnected nature of student and teacher experiences, where enhancing one inherently enriches the other. He is committed to bridging theory and practice to create environments where both can thrive.
