
Biography
Dr. Thelma Isaacs is passionate about helping future teachers find their place in the classroom and thrive as educators. As Associate Dean of Marshall University’s College of Education and Professional Development, she works closely with students, faculty, and schools to strengthen teacher preparation programs, support student success, and ensure high-quality experiences in the field.
A lifelong learner, Dr. Isaacs earned several degrees from Marshall before completing her doctorate at West Virginia University. Her own teaching journey began in middle and high school classrooms, where she discovered her love for guiding students and shaping learning environments. That same spirit continues to guide her work with teacher candidates today.
Dr. Isaacs has published and presented widely on topics such as teacher preparation, classroom management, character education, and middle-level learning. She is also active in professional service and has been honored with awards for both teaching and service, including the Marshall and Shirley Reynolds Outstanding Teacher Award and the Dr. Barbara P. Guyer COEPD Faculty Award for Excellence in Service.
Above all, she values connection — with students, colleagues, and the community. Whether she’s teaching, mentoring, or collaborating with schools, Dr. Isaacs is committed to helping educators grow into confident, caring professionals who make a difference.
