Challenged as one option for the required summer reading at Wando High School in Mount Pleasant (SC) cecause it “uses foul language, degrades women, and people of color.” The novel is set in the South Carolina Lowcountry and tells the story of a teenage boy and his uncle who find a dead body and have to figure out what happened.
