Banned Books 2018 – Perfect Chemistry

Marshall University does not ban books! The information is provided to let people know what has been banned/challenged elsewhere.

2018

Banned from the Challenger (CO) Middle School Library when administration overruled a review committee that had unanimously recommended to retain Perfect Chemistry. The original complaint filed by a parent cited graphic sexual encounters, drug and alcohol use, violence, and profanity. The book review committee, librarians, educators, and parents filed a 92-page appeal to the school board in hopes of overturning the superintendent’s censorship of the book. The school board voted to ban the book. The other two books in the series by Simone Elkeles have also been removed.
