The Dr. Carter G. Woodson Lyceum’s 2020 Black History Month poster competitions are open this semester. There is one competition open to all West Virginia K-12 students, and another competition open to all Marshall University students. The theme is “African Americans and the Vote.”

The Marshall University School of Music will present “Music of This Century,” a faculty recital by trombonist Dr. Michael Stroeher and pianist Dr. Johan Botes at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, in Smith Recital Hall.

Marshall University’s annual celebration of the U.S. Constitution will take on a slightly different look this year as it marks the commemoration with three weeks of activities, lectures and period-appropriate lawn games.

The Marshall University School of Music resumes the lecture series MUsic Mondays at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16, at the Cellar Door, 905 3rd Ave. The 2019-2020 series, titled “The B List,” will explore composers whose surnames begin with “B,” culminating in the Fall of 2020 with an all-Beethoven series to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the composer’s birth.

For the first time, U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Colleges” rankings have recognized Marshall University among the nation’s top higher education institutions.
