A fourth-year medical student at the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine has matched into an ophthalmology residency position through a specialized national matching process called the San Francisco Match.

Marshall University will help celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 18, in the Joan C. Edwards Performing Arts Center. The event will include a host of activities honoring the late civil rights leader.

Paulette S. Wehner, M.D., vice dean for graduate medical education at the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, has been selected by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education to serve as a member of the Sponsoring Institution 2025 Task Force.

Mark H. Cooper, M.D., Ph.D., a board-certified, fellowship-trained thoracic surgeon, has joined the faculty of the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine as an assistant professor.

The Robert C. Byrd Institute for Advanced Flexible Manufacturing, the U.S. Department of Labor and their partners will celebrate the kickoff of Apprenticeship Works, the National Advanced Manufacturing Apprenticeship Program at RCBI, on Tuesday, Jan. 12, in downtown Huntington.

The first Kids’ Night Out of the year will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15, at the Marshall Rec Center.

Marshall University’s public radio station, WMUL-FM, has been named a finalist for Best College/University Radio Station (more than 10,000 students) in the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System’s annual awards contest.

The Marshall Recreation Center is aiming to Share the Health with members of the Marshall community from 10:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9.

Boasting such names as Marvin Stone, Ernie Salvatore, Joe Johns, Estelle Belanger, Jim Comstock and even pioneer television comedian Soupy Sales in its Hall of Fame, Marshall University’s W. Page Pitt School of Journalism and Mass Communications (SOJMC) is seeking nominations for its upcoming induction class.

Marshall University Forensic Science graduate student Kaitlin Huffman of Mt. Nebo, West Virginia, is the first recipient of the Paul H. and Dixie O. Nicely Scholarship Award.
