Interdisciplinary Minor in Sustainability

With global attention focused on environmental sustainability and limited natural resources, many students are interested in learning more about environmental science and pending environmental issues. An Interdisciplinary Minor in Sustainability at Marshall University will bring the student’s attention ideas and practices that ensure ecological systems are maintained in viable condition for the foreseeable future. Students engaged in Sustainability will understand the limitations and current use of resources supporting energy, agriculture, water, and waste management and envision practical strategies for improving resource utilization to achieve a sustainable future. Upon understanding concepts within the sustainability framework, students may focus on one of the primary areas of sustainability – environmental, natural resources, agricultural, energy, or societal – by selecting from relevant courses.

How Can I Minor in Sustainability at Marshall University?

The Interdisciplinary Minor in Sustainability requires 6 hours of core courses – NRE 120 Discussions in Environmental Science and NRE 320 Environmental Problems – and 9 hours of area specific content. Sustainability involves every aspect of society from agriculture to land management to marketing to culture.  Many departments offer area specific content on sustainability in their diverse and respective fields. The minor has areas of focus such as environmental, agricultural, energy, societal, or natural resources.
