Biography
McKenzie Brittain, PhD is an Assistant Professor and Program Director for the Graduate Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education and Professional Development at Marshall University. She serves as the Program Coordinator for the Graduate Education Elementary Mathematics Specialist and Mathematics through Algebra 1 programs.
Dr. Brittain’s graduate-level mathematics programs are designed to prepare mathematics teacher leaders with the content knowledge and pedagogy needed to support both their students and their colleagues. Her goal is for teachers graduating from these programs to be equipped to inspire students to think critically about mathematics, engage every learner in meaningful ways, and serve as mathematics mentors and leaders in their schools.
As coordinator of the Elementary Mathematics Specialist and Mathematics through Algebra 1 programs, Dr. Brittain teaches all graduate-level courses focused on Curriculum and Instruction in Mathematics Education. She also contributes to the Curriculum and Instruction Doctoral Program by teaching statistics and dissertation courses.
Her scholarly interests center on mathematics education and technology. She currently serves as Vice President of Conference Planning for the Eastern Educational Research Association and partners with West Virginia school districts to lead teacher cohorts in professional development focused on mathematics and instructional strategies.
In addition to her teaching and research, Dr. Brittain advises all students in the Elementary Mathematics Specialist and Mathematics through Algebra 1 programs. She also supports doctoral students by chairing dissertation committees, co-teaching and co-developing graduate-level courses, and co-presenting with students at research-based conferences.
