Dr. Tom Cuchta, faculty member in Marshall University’s Department of Mathematics and Physics, recently served as both a speaker and organizing committee member at the sixth Dynamical Equations on Time Scales workshop, held this June at the prestigious Banach Center in Bȩdlewo, Poland.

This international gathering brought together mathematicians from around the globe—including Australia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, the Czech Republic, India, and the United States—for a week of collaboration and research exchange. Dr. Cuchta presented his latest work, “Bessel Functions on Time Scales,” a cutting-edge project in special functions theory coauthored with Dr. Antonín Slavík of Charles University in Prague.

The focus of the workshop was time scales calculus, a field that unifies classical calculus with discrete mathematics, difference equations, and quantum calculus into a single, elegant framework.

Held at a conference venue operated by the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Banach Center has hosted all six iterations of the workshop since 2018. This year’s event was additionally supported by Białystok University of Technology and its Faculty of Computer Sciences. Attendees also enjoyed an excursion to the historic Rogalin Palace museum—an 18th-century estate rich in Polish cultural heritage.
