The Department of Biological Sciences at the College of Science proudly highlights recent presentations by members of the Palmquist lab at the 2026 Society for Range Management Annual Meeting held February 7–11 in Monterey, California. The event brought together researchers, land managers, ranchers, students, and agency professionals to explore rangeland science and sustainable grazing practices under the theme “Herd ’round the World,” celebrating global rangeland ecosystems and pastoralism.

Associate Professor Kyle Palmquist and graduate students represented the department in both oral and poster sessions. Master’s student Catherine Schwartzmann delivered an oral presentation as part of a targeted grazing symposium, and another Master’s student, Dave Boak, shared his work in a poster session. Their presentations focused on research in western U.S. climate change impacts and grazing management, engaging an audience of scientists and land management professionals.

The Society for Range Management Annual Meeting features symposia, technical sessions, workshops, and poster sessions designed to connect science with practical rangeland stewardship. This year’s program included discussions on climate change, biodiversity conservation, grazing practices, and other pressing issues affecting rangelands worldwide.

The College of Science congratulates Catherine and Dave on their contributions to the meeting and for helping elevate the department’s research on a national stage.
