Math & Physics celebrates Pi Day with pies, philanthropy, and plenty of fun

Students and faculty in the Department of Mathematics & Physics turned Pi Day into a memorable mix of math spirit and community support this year, complete with friendly competition and a pie-filled finale.

In the lead-up to the celebration, the Pi Mu Epsilon Math Club invited students to vote with their wallets, raising donations to determine which math professor would be pied. The playful campaign built excitement across campus while supporting the club’s ongoing activities.

The main event took place March 12 outside the Memorial Student Center, where participants gathered from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a chance to take part in the festivities. One of the highlights featured Dr. Sean P. McBride, who volunteered to step into the spotlight and take a pie to the face in support of two causes: the Big Brothers Big Sisters program, and the Sigma Phi Epsilon student organization.

With laughter, generosity, and just the right amount of whipped cream, the Pi Day celebration showcased how mathematics can bring people together for a good cause.
