Dr. Jagan Valluri, professor of biological sciences at Marshall University, is being recognized for more than 20 years of research dedicated to improving how cancer is treated through personalized medicine.

Valluri is co-developer of ChemoID®, a precision oncology tool that tests a patient’s tumor to identify the most effective chemotherapy options. The technology helps oncologists tailor treatment plans by determining which therapies are most likely to work for each individual patient.

The test has shown promising results in clinical settings, including extending survival for patients with aggressive cancers. ChemoID has also been evaluated through multi-institutional trials at major cancer centers across the country, demonstrating its impact on treatment decision-making.

“For patients who have months to live, every month, every week, every day is extremely important,” Valluri said. “And so, our test allows oncologists to dial the right treatment for that person.”

ChemoID recently received Breakthrough Device Designation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, a milestone that highlights its potential to significantly improve outcomes for cancer patients.
