Dr. Tom Cuchta and mathematics graduate student Richard Williams presented research at the Workshop on Dynamic Equations on Time Scales, Difference Equations, and Applications in Mathematical Biology, held May 18–22, 2026, in Campinas, Brazil. The conference drew participants from around the world, representing more than a dozen countries.

The event was organized by Cuchta, Dr. Jaqueline Mesquita (Universidade Estadual de Campinas), and Dr. Sabrina Streipert (University of Pittsburgh) in honor of Dr. Martin Bohner of Missouri University of Science & Technology. Bohner is a leading figure in time scales calculus, a field that unifies continuous and discrete calculus and has grown steadily since its introduction in 1988.

Cuchta presented research on oscillation and nonoscillation in time-varying parameter hypergeometric functions, while Williams shared his thesis work on the polynomial shift problem in time scales calculus. Both projects are supported by Cuchta’s National Science Foundation LEAPS grant (DMS-2532829).

Conference participants also explored local history through a visit to a historic coffee farm, now used for education. More information about Dr. Cuchta’s work is available on his website, and conference details can be found on the event page.
