College of Science alumnus awarded for research documentary Canary

Congratulations to Canary, winner of the Feature category at the 2024 Jackson Wild Media Awards! This remarkable achievement is a testament to the entire Canary team’s dedication. The film follows Marshall University and College of Science alumnus Dr. Lonnie Thompson as he seeks Earth’s history contained in glaciers atop the tallest mountains in the world. He and his wife, Ellen Mosley-Thompson, who met while both studying at Marshall, are now research partners examining the effects of climate change on the world’s glacial regions and developing technology to drill deep in ice. Dr. Lonnie Thompson is one of the world’s foremost authorities on paleoclimatology and glaciology.
