Biology students explore plant diversity during Earth Day visit

Share

Marshall University Plant Taxonomy students celebrated Earth Day with a hands‑on learning experience at the Huntington Museum of Art Plant Conservatory. Students explored a wide range of plant species while studying adaptations, structure, and diversity beyond the classroom.

The visit was led by Conservatory Director and Marshall alumnus Joshua Hamrick, who guided students through the collection and shared insights into plant care and conservation. Students observed flowering orchids and hibiscus, sampled cacao seeds and citrus fruits, and examined a specialized ant plant to learn how some plants house ants that help defend them against herbivores. The field experience provided Biology students with a memorable and engaging opportunity to connect taxonomy concepts with real‑world examples.
