Biology alumnus earns prestigious National Cancer Institute fellowship

Marshall University biology alumnus Dr. Bradley Muncy has been awarded a fully funded T32 Surgeon Scientist Research Fellowship through the National Cancer Institute, a highly competitive opportunity that will support advanced training in cancer research.

A native of Mingo County, West Virginia, Muncy completed his undergraduate degree in the Marshall University College of Science before earning his medical degree from West Virginia University. He later returned to Marshall University’s Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine as a resident in the nation’s first accredited rural general surgery residency program.

As part of the fellowship, Muncy will pursue a Ph.D. in clinical and translational science with a focus on cancer biology at the University of Kentucky’s Markey Cancer Center. He plans to use the experience to advance cancer care and research for rural and underserved communities throughout Appalachia. The College of Science congratulates Muncy on this outstanding achievement and looks forward to his continued impact in medicine and research.
