NRE students buzz into fieldwork

Students in the Department of Natural Resources and the Environment are taking their learning to the field—literally! As part of the Agricultural Entomology course, they recently spent the day sampling pollinators among vibrant roadside flower patches maintained by the Ohio Department of Transportation.

Armed with bug spray and pants tucked securely into their socks, the class got an up-close look at pollinator diversity while practicing safe field techniques—an important precaution as tick-borne pathogens continue to rise.

It’s hands-on science at its best: flowers, fresh air, and a whole lot of buzzing activity!
