Biology professor receives NIH award for fertility research

Marshall University Biological Sciences professor Dr. Guo-Zhang Zhu has been awarded a prestigious National Institutes of Health (NIH) R16 grant to support his research project, “Mll4 as an Epigenetic Regulator in Mammalian Spermatogenesis.”

The project will investigate the critical role of the epigenetic regulator Mll4 in mammalian sperm development and examine how Mll4-mediated gene regulation contributes to male fertility. In addition to advancing understanding of reproductive biology, the grant will support undergraduate student involvement in cutting-edge research.

Through the project, students will gain hands-on laboratory experience while developing scientific, critical-thinking, and professional skills. The integration of research and education will help prepare the next generation of scientists while expanding opportunities for undergraduate research at Marshall University.
