Overview
The Multi-categorical Special Education endorsement prepares pre-service teachers to teach public school students having learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, and behavior disorders. The program is an add-on certification to the elementary K-6, or the secondary 5-adult degree. The successful candidate will be certified to teach in most general special education classrooms. Pre-service students receive content in courses related to the characteristics and behavior of students with multi-categorical disabilities, assessment, and strategies related to teaching and planning unique, individualized lessons.
Pre-service students adding on in multi-categorical special education will have added marketability as most special education pre-service candidates are approached during student teaching with potential teaching positions in special education.
