Two Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine students have been selected to serve in committee positions with the American Medical Association-Medical Student Section (AMA-MSS).
J. Wesley Urian, Medical school-second year, was selected to serve on the Committee for Medical Education. Urian and 11 others were chosen from a pool of more than 50 applicants. He is a Cabell County native and earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Kentucky.
Brandon S. Merritt, Medical school-third year, was selected to serve on the Committee on Global and Public Health. The committee focuses on current global and domestic public health issues and their impact on medical students. Merritt received his undergraduate degree from West Virginia University and a graduate degree from Tulane University. He is from South Charleston.
Amy Smith, M.Ed., assistant dean for student affairs at the School of Medicine, congratulated both students on their selections.
“These two students are outstanding ambassadors for our school of medicine and will serve medical students across the country through these roles,” Smith said. “We couldn’t be more pleased that they’ve been selected for the positions.”
Several Marshall School of Medicine students have served on AMA-MSS committees over the years, including then-medical student Jay R. Bronder, M.D., Class of 2015, who was elected to the AMA’s House of Delegates.
