Join the Marching thunder for the Spring Game

All high school band students and Marching Thunder Alumni are invited to join the Marching Thunder to play for the Marshall Spring Game.  Details are available below.  Meet us in the Henderson Center Band Complex at 2:00pm wearing your favorite Marshall gear.  Music will be provided! Come have a fun day playing music and cheering on The Herd!

 

Saturday, April 30th
2:00- Meet in the Henderson Center Band Complex
2:30- Pep Rally in the stadium parking lot
3:30- Kick Off

Drumline, Color Guard, and Majorette Auditions- April 30

The Marching Thunder will be holding auditions for drumline, front ensemble, majorettes, featured twirlers, and color guard the last weekend of April.

NEW YEAR’S IN ROME

The Marching Thunder has been invited by the Mayor of Rome, Italy to perform in the New Year’s Day Celebration Parade! The Marching Thunder will travel on December 30th and spend 7 days touring the great city and will be featured in two performances during their stay.

Marching Thunder T-Shirt Design Contest

tshirtWhat: Marching Thunder T-Shirt Design Contest

When: July 1, 2015-August 31, 2015

Who: All students, faculty, staff, alumni, and fans of the Marching Thunder are invited to participate. The winning t-shirt design will be produced as a limited run and sold by the Marching Thunder at various events throughout the season.  The winner will receive a free shirt and along with a guest, will join the Marching Thunder at a home game.

Why: Just because!

Design Specifications

  • Your design should be Marching Thunder themed
  • Your design may contain a maximum of four (4) colors (plus the shirt color).
  • Design should not exceed 8 ½ x 11 inches.
  • Designs may be created using a professional design program. If you use Photoshop or other paint programs, then the design must be no less than 600 dpi at 8 ½ x 11 inches in dimension
  • The University’s brand colors should be incorporated in the design.
  • The design should be created for use on either a white, grey, black, or kelly green shirt.  The fial look shirt color will be decided by the contest committee.
  • Official Marshall athletics logos and marks are prohibited from use in the design
  • Use of the University’s institutional logo is permitted.
  • All artwork must be original

How to submit

  • All artwork must be emailed to daltona@marshall.edu
  • All submissions must be accompanied by the participant’s name, contact number, and what inspired their design. This information can be provided in the body of the submission e-mail.
  •  If the design is hand-drawn or painted, it must be scanned and converted into a PDF or jpeg file.
  • Your submission should be a PDF or jpeg file no larger than 5MB. If you win, we will ask you for a high-resolution file.
  • By submitting your design, you agree to have it shared on the Marching Thunder website and social media pages.
  • The Marching Thunder will have all rights to the winning design. By submitting, you agree that if your design wins, it will be sold by the Marching Thunder on a T-shirt and other promotional items.
  • We reserve the right to make adjustments to the winning design based on University guidelines or printing limitations.

 

Designs will be judged based on quality and relevance. The judging panel will consist of Marshall faculty, staff, and students.

 

Apply to perform at the 2016 Marshall Honor Band

This year Marshall is going to invite two high school ensembles to perform in a special concert as part of the 2016 Marshall Honor Band.

The event will take place February 4-6, 2016 and the selected ensembles will perform for the honor band participants on Friday, February 5th at 3pm.

To apply you must

  1. Download the application
  2. Submit the application along with a CD containing a recording of your ensemble
    1. The recording should be made after January 2015
    2. Include two pieces of contrasting style
    3. Label the CD with the name of the school and the title of the two selections
  3. Include at least 2 programs from your concerts within the past 2 years
  4. Mail all materials by June 1, 2015

The selection process will include a panel of Marshall faculty.  The selection will be done in a blind listening session where panel will not know which school is playing.  Applicants will be notified by June 8th.

Play with the Marching Thunder at the Spring Game

The Marching Thunder invites all high school band students to play with us and cheer on the team during the Marshall Spring Game.  The game will be held on April 25, 2015 at 2pm.  Students should report to the band room in the Henderson Center at 1pm to collect their music and walk in with the band.  Admission is free for students who play with us and parents can get in for $5.  The band will play our favorite cheers and tunes from the stands.  The game should last about an hour.

Twirler’s Clinic- March 7, 2015

Marshall University will be having a twirling clinic this Saturday, March 7th from 1-3:30 in the band room located in the Henderson Center. We will be going over various tricks and routines to prepare you for auditions that will be Held on April 25, 2015. The clinic Is not required but is recommended to anybody in High School that may want to try out for MU Majorette in the next year or two.
