Calling all musicians to join the largest student organization at Marshall University.  Perform for thousands at home football games and exhibitions.  Membership is open to any student at Marshall University.  Wind players just need to fill out the registration form below and sign up for the Marching Band course.

Band camp will begin Thursday, August 13th and last until Wednesday August 19th.

If you have been accepted to Marshall University and have a 901 number you may register on our Charms website.  Please use your 901 number as your ID number.

Herd about the new style?

The Marching Thunder is currently raising money to purchase new uniforms for the 2015 season.  The current uniforms are 11 years old and are quickly becoming unwearable.  They are also still hunter green which is no longer the official color of Marshall University.

We have worked with some of the best designers in the country to come up with a fresh, unique look for Marshall University.  But, we need your help.  Each uniform costs about $400 and with a band the size of the Marching Thunder, we need to purchase a lot of them.

We are announcing a new fundraising campaign to help raise the funds.

$25- Purchase a pair of gauntlets for the Marching Thunder
$50- Purchase a new hat for the Marching Thunder
$100- Purchase a new coat for the Marching Thunder
$500- Sponsor a Member of the Marching Thunder
$1,000- Sponsor a Section of the Marching Thunder
$10,000- Sponsor a Halftime Show for the Marching Thunder

For a gift to sponsor a member, you will receive a signed picture of one of our members in their new uniform.

If you wish to sponsor a section, you will receive two passes to be a guest of the band at one of the home football games of the 2015 season and have your picture taken on the field with one of our sections.

For gifts of 10,000 or more, you will get the Marching Thunder game day experience. You will receive 4 passes to a home game as a guest of the band. Your name will be announced during our halftime performance.  And finally, following the game the band will spell your name out on the field and take a picture which will be framed and sent to you.

Alumni Basketball Pep Band

We are inviting all Marching Thunder Alumni who would like to participate in some of our basketball pep band performances.  If you are interested, please contact Adam Dalton at daltona@marshall.edu.

The first event will be the Marshall vs. WVU game in Charleston, WV

A bus will leave from Huntington at approximately 2pm
Anyone wishing to meet us in Charleston can plan to arrive at 3pm

March with the Thunder

Join the Marching Thunder for the annual Homecoming Parade on October 18th!  The Student Government Association is seeking high school bands to participate in the Marshall Homecoming Parade.  $1,000, $500, and $250 prizes are available for the top 3 bands.  For more information, contact the SGA here.

Band Camp Information

Marching Thunder Band Camp will begin on August 13th for percussion and auxiliaries and on August 15th for wind players.  A general schedule of the week is listed below.  If you are interested in being in the marching band this season and have not received any information in the mail, please contact Dr. Dalton immediately at daltona@marshall.edu.  It’s going to be a very exciting year for the Marching Thunder!


August 13th
3:00-5:00 – Percussion and Auxiliary Housing Move-Ins (See Housing section for details)
4:00-5:30 – Check in for percussion and Auxiliary Check-In (Henderson Center Band Complex)
** Please be prepared to pay your $50 camp fee
5:30-6:30 – Percussion and Auxiliary welcome meeting (Henderson Center Band Complex)
6:30-9:00 – Rehearsal

Note: You may park in the West Stadium Parking Lot and enter the Henderson Center through the glass doors on the east side of the building near the new practice field.

April 14th
9:00am – Percussion and Auxiliary begin rehearsal (Henderson Center Band Complex)
(Each group will set their own rehearsal schedule)

August 15th
9:00-5:00 – Percussion and Auxiliary rehearsals continue
1:00-4:00 – Wind Players Housing Move-Ins
3:00-5:00 – Band Check-in (Henderson Center Band Complex)
3:00-5:00 – Instrument check out for students using school owned instruments (Henderson Center Band Complex)
5:00-6:00 – Full Band meeting at 5:00pm followed by music rehearsal. Bring your instruments (Henderson Center Band Complex)
6:00-9:00 – Full Band Rehearsal

August 16-20th
8:30am-9:00pm – Full Band Rehearsals

On Wednesday, August 20th we will have an open rehearsal from 3:30-5:00 for family and friends. We will do a final performance of everything we know at 5:00. Everyone is invited to come out to this exciting event!

It’s not too late to be a part of one of the Tri-State’s biggest marching contests.  This year the event will be held on October 18, 2014 and spaces are still available.  For more information on the event, click here.
