Dr. Ryan Van Dusen headshot

Dr. Ryan Van Dusen
Compliance & Conflict Resolution Manager, Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS

Dr. Ryan Van Dusen has worked in higher education since 2002. Currently, he is serving as the Compliance & Conflict Resolution Manager at Kansas State University. His responsibilities include Clery compliance, youth protection, and chair of the threat management team. Previously, he held roles as Dean of Student Development at Bethany College, Associate Dean of Students at the University of Memphis, and Director of Military & Veterans Programs at Texas Tech University. He has also worked in student activities, housing, and student conduct. He has also taught as an adjunct instructor at Texas Tech, the University of Memphis, Bethany College, Arkansas Tech University, Central Texas College, and Kansas State University.

Dr. Van Dusen earned a BA in History and an MA in Communications Studies from Edinboro University of PA, a Ph.D. in Higher Education from Texas Tech University, and a MBA from the University of Memphis. Before working in Higher Education, Dr. Van Dusen served in the U.S. Army from 1998-2002. He was a M1A1 Armor Crewman (19K). When he exited the military he was a sergeant (E5). He was stationed at Ft. Riley, KS and Camp Casey, Republic of Korea. He has been married for 20 years and has two daughters.

Dr. Scott Walter headshot

Dr. Scott Walter
Assistant Vice President for Student Life, Miami University, Oxford, OH

Dr. Scott L. Walter has over twenty-five years of progressively responsible administrative experience in Student Affairs including supervision of employees, allocation and management of fiscal resources, strategic planning, and crisis response and management. Dr. Walter’s experiences include: managing the university judicial process, directing Greek Life, advising the Associated Student Government and Senate, serving as the Director of Residence Life, overseeing a leadership institute, supervising diversity affairs, supervising intramural sports, directing service-learning and volunteer services, and both serving on and leading numerous university committees during this time.

Over his career, Dr. Walter, has worked to develop key partnerships with both internal and external stakeholders and worked to create educational solutions to meet the mission of the universities he has served and improved the overall student experience.

Walter holds a Doctorate of Education and Master’s degree in Higher Education from the University of Arkansas and Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Dr. Walter has held several leadership positions in professional associations over his career. He is a past Region II Board Member and Region IV Professional Standards Division Chair for the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) and a past National Fireside Chat Coordinator for the Association of Fraternity Advisors (AFA). Currently, Dr. Walter serves on several Oxford community boards and long-range planning committees along with numerous University-wide committees.

Mr. Kamran Riaz headshot

Mr. Kamran Riaz
Senior Associate Dean of Students, University of Houston, Houston, TX

Kamran Riaz has worked in Higher Education for over 30 years in various capacities and has always been focused on being an advocate for students. He has served as an Academic Advisor, Director of Council of Ethnic Organizations, Assistant Dean of Students, Director of Academic and Student Services, Associate Dean of Students and most recently as the Senior Associate Dean of Students.

Some of the awards and honors Kamran has received have been from Phi Beta Delta, Golden Key International Honour Society, General Motors, Who’s Who Among International Students in American Universities and Colleges and Omicron Delta Kappa.

Kamran earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration majoring in Organizational Behavior and Management from University of Houston and a Master of Business Administration from Texas Southern University. He is also a certified Mediator in the State of Texas.

Kamran is an avid sports fan and enjoys watching all types of sports. He enjoys spending time with family and loves to travel. Kamran has visited Austria, Canada, China, France, India, Japan, Kenya, Netherlands, Pakistan, Qatar, Turkey, Uganda, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and of course the United States of America.

Dr. Marcie Simms headshot

Dr. Marcie Simms
Dean of Students, Shawnee State University, Portsmouth, OH

Dr. Marcie Hatfield-Simms serves as the Dean of Students at Shawnee State University in Portsmouth, OH. In her current role, she is the Chief Student Affairs officer and serves as a member of the Senior Leadership Team. She provides leadership and oversight for Student Conduct, Student Life, Housing and Residence Life, Diversity and Inclusion, the Women’s and Gender Equity Center, Fraternity and Sorority Life, Community Service, the “I am First Gen” mentor program, and Veterans Services. She has experience in crisis management, Title IX, behavior intervention, co-curricular assessment, and strategic planning.

Dr. Simms joined SSU in 2005 and previously served as the Director and Associate Director of Residence Life. Before joining SSU, she worked at Florida State University and Eastern Kentucky University in the Housing and Residence Life department. As a dedicated, passionate, and inclusive student-centered educator, Dr. Simms has more than 22 years of experience in the field of Student Affairs and serves as an advocate for the needs of students on campus. Originally from Salt Rock, WV, she holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Marshall University, a master’s degree in student affairs from Eastern Kentucky University, and a Doctorate of Education from Marshall University.

Dr. Daniel Nadler headshot

Dr. Daniel Nadler
Interim Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, West Virginia State University, Institute, WV

Dr. Dan Nadler has extensive student affairs senior-level leadership experience in both public and private universities, serving a diverse group of students, including at an HBCU, Hispanic/ Minority Serving Institution, Land-Grant, Faith-Based, Comprehensive and Regional Institutions, and a Very High Research University.

In his current capacity, Dan provides leadership as the Interim Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management at West Virginia State University, a position focused on enhancing student success and maximizing the student experience. He previously served in leadership positions at Eastern Illinois University, Northern Kentucky University, Southern Illinois University, St. Thomas University, and Tulane University.

In addition to his senior-level leadership experience, Dan is active on the national level, having served as Senior Associate Editor for The Journal of College Orientation and Transition and Guest Editor of the Journal of Research on the College President, presenting papers at professional conferences, and publishing journal articles and books on a variety of higher education issues with special emphasis on student governance, student and faculty orientation programs, transfer students, and college student development.

Dan is the recipient of several awards and honors including the NASPA Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education Bob E. Leach Award for Outstanding Service to Students and the Outstanding Service to Students Award which bares his name at Tulane University.

Originally, from Chicago, Illinois, Dan earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Higher Education, a Master of Science Degree in Speech Communication, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Liberal Education from Southern Illinois University.
