Captain Frank Abbott

Frank Hall Abbott, Jr., the 47-year-old captain, was born in 1923 in College Park, Georgia. He graduated from Georgia Tech in 1940 and attended the Citadel in 1941-43. He served as a pilot in the Army Air Corps during the Second World War and joined Southern Airways on July 21, 1949. He was called back into the Service for the Korean War. His airline transport pilot certificate was number 507765, and he held ratings in the DC-3, DC-4, DC-9 and Martin-202/404, as well as commercial privileges in single-engine land airplane. He also held a flight instructor certificate and instrument ratings. He had 18,557 hours in the air as a pilot, with 2,194 in the DC-9. His last proficiency check was on October 14, 1970, and he received his FAA first-class medical certificate on October 22, 1970. He was buried at the New Bern National Cemetery, Craven County, North Carolina.
