Teaching Strategies for New Instructors

Abstract:
Teaching for the first time can be a daunting experience, especially for teaching assistants and new adjuncts, who often have dual roles either at the University or in the community. In this workshop we will discuss common teaching practices strategies for surviving the first day (and week), stimulating and facilitating class discussions, developing effective and manageable assessment strategies, and exploring available pedagogical philosophies and tools. This session is geared towards graduate students and adjuncts.
