Title:
Assistant/Associate Professor-Forensic Chemistry |

Qualifications: Ph.D. in analytical chemistry or other doctoral degree appropriate for the field of forensic chemistry. Applicants with a degree in forensic science and work experience in a forensic science laboratory are preferred. Teaching experience at an accredited institution of high learning is required. Teaching experience in a FEPAC-accredited program is preferred. Research record including publications, grant writing and submissions, as well as a record of extramural-funding of research activities or potential for such awards and activities. Work and/or teaching experience in the areas of forensic analytical chemistry, chemical analysis of trace evidence, toxicology, fire debris analysis, or forensic drug analysis/controlled substances or related areas. Demonstrated strong teaching skills and ability to inspire student learning; model and mentor professional ethics and values; demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in education; display strong leadership skills, interpersonal skills, as well as oral and written communication skills. |
Duties: The successful candidate is expected to continue their pursuit of external funding to support research to promote the dissemination of new information and the improvement of the forensic sciences. The position requires a knowledge and/or experience in the following areas analytical techniques, instrumentation, data interpretation, ethics and professional values, court testimony, evidence handling, logic, principles and concepts of forensic science applications, scientific method, method validation, evolution of the discipline, accepted standards and practices, results and conclusions, process analysis, QU/QC, report writing, case management, and knowledge of instrumentation to include elemental analysis, spectrometry, and chromatography, all as they relate to forensic science and/or forensic chemistry. The successful candidate shall teach courses in the forensic chemistry curriculum while ensuring their applicability to the program’s mission, goals, and objectives. Research in the area of chemical analysis of trace evidence is preferred. This individual will assist in teaching in the Forensic Chemistry sector of the FEPAC-accredited graduate program. The successful candidate will teach selected courses*, assist in developing curricula, advise and mentor students, as well as serve on university and program-related committees. Membership in regional and national forensic science organizations is encouraged. The successful candidate shall participate in teaching, research, and community service in a manner that effectively reflects the university’s, as well as the program’s, mission, goals, and objectives. More specifically, the successful candidate will teach some or all components of the following courses: FSC662 Forensic Analytical Chemistry (Fall semester; 3 credit hrs); FSC623 Forensic Analytical Chemistry* Laboratory (Spring semester; 1 credit hr); FSC626 Advanced Drug Analysis (Spring Semester: 2 credit hr); FSC608 Forensic Toxicology as a team taught course currently (Fall semester; 3 credit hrs); FSC628 Chemical Analysis of Trace Evidence* (Fall semester; 2 credit hrs). *NOTE: Both analytical chemistry and trace evidence courses have a laboratory component. In addition, the successful candidate will assist in advising graduate students enrolled in the chemistry emphasis oversee their internships and research, whether in the lab or away, and review research papers and research projects, oral and posted presentations. |

Qualifications: The successful candidate will preferably possess a Ph.D. in analytical chemistry or other doctoral degree appropriate for the field of forensic chemistry although masters will be considered as well. Applicants with degree(s) in forensic science and work experience in a forensic science laboratory are preferred. The successful candidate shall have work and/or teaching experience in Forensic Chemistry including knowledge and/or experience in forensic analytical chemistry, chemical analysis or trace evidence, toxicology, fire debris analysis, forensic drug analysis/controlled substances or related areas. The successful candidate will display strong teaching skills and the ability to inspire student learning; will model and mentor professional ethics and values; will demonstrate strong commitment to excellence in education; display strong leadership skills, interpersonal skills, as well as oral and written communication skills. Knowledge and appreciation for teaching in an accredited environment is essential. Teaching experience in a FEPAC-accredited program is preferred. |
Duties: Along with the primary course instructor, the successful candidate will design and implement a plan which seeks to ensure a smooth transition upon the retirement of the primary course instructor in May, 2013. This individual will formally shadow while process mapping the Forensic Chemistry component(s) of the M.S. Forensic Science Program. These duties may include instruction, committee service, grant writing, review of research and course-assigned papers, formal presentation slides, posters, lab reports, and literature review. The position requires a knowledge and/or experience in analytical techniques, instrumentation, data interpretation, ethics and professional values, court testimony, evidence handling, logic, principles and concepts or forensic science application, scientific method, method validation, evolution of the discipline, accepted standards and practices, results and conclusions, process analysis, QA/QC, report writing, case management, and knowledge of instrumentation to include elemental analysis, spectrometry, and chromatography, all as they relate to forensic science and/or forensic chemistry. The successful candidate shall shadow and assist in teaching courses in the forensic chemistry curriculum while ensuring their applicability to the program’s mission, goals, and objectives. |
