Information Technology Intern (currently not available)
This internship provides Marshall University students with an opportunity to develop and enhance several much need skills required for today’s technology job market. By working on projects alongside the Information Technology team, students will be exposed to a work environment that gives them real life experience. This environment will help them learn how to collaborate as part of a team on projects, increase their technical skills, and their professional skills. Applying what students learn in the classroom to hands on projects with results is an invaluable experience. Some of the projects interns are working on are:
- Evaluating new technology devices, software, and services and write reports on the findings (in a format that can be posted as a web page)
- Developing some prototypes or proof of concepts for a new implementation that could become production on the university campus (e.g. attendance tracking, student mobile services etc.)
- Writing data reports and design visual analytics dashboards for certain departments on campus or for researchers.
- Assisting the IT department in some operation tasks when needed.

Information Security Intern
This internship provides Marshall University students with an opportunity to develop and enhance several skills required for today’s Digital Forensics & Information Security job market. We welcome the opportunity for two students to assist our Information Security team with the following projects:
- IT Security Analytics
The Marshall University Information Technology team manages a wide variety of technology platforms which generate an abundance of raw usage data. Opportunities exist to work with IT staff members to perform analysis and reporting of data for applications such as software license utilization, computer asset inventory, and computer security health assessments.
Skillset: Use of a variety of software tools to collect raw data, identify patterns, and summarize results. Develop written, verbal and interpersonal skills working with IT peers and managers.
- IT Security Risk Analytics
The Marshall University Information Technology Environment consists of a wide variety of internet devices which require regular software and firmware updates. Opportunities exist to work with IT staff members to perform security risk assessments of these systems.
Skillset: Use a variety of commercial and open-source tools to perform network scanning, device identification, analyze results from anonymous and credentialed vulnerability scans, work with IT staff to verify results, recommend patches or configuration changes.
- IT Security Automation Development
The Marshall University Information Technology Environment consists of infrastructure and client devices from a variety of vendors. Often we need to use data sourced from one or more systems as input for other processes. Opportunities exist to work with IT staff members to leverage existing tools to automate these data flows.
Skillset: Use of SQL, PowerShell, Python, Perl, and other scripting tools to perform ad-hoc and regular occurring data transformation. Attention to detail, good written communication skills to document and able to work independently as well as with small-project teams.

Information Technology Marketing Internship (currently filled)
This internship provides Marshall University students with an opportunity to develop and enhance several skills required for today’s job market. By working on projects, students will be exposed to a work environment that gives them real life experience. This environment will help them learn how to collaborate as part of a team on projects, increase their technical skills, and their professional skills. Applying what students learn in the classroom to hands on projects with results is an invaluable experience.
This opportunity is for an marketing/journalism internship for assisting the IT staff with the development, implementation, and management of campaigns for various IT projects and initiatives. Possible projects include promoting IT services and information to students, faculty, staff, and the University community. Primary responsibilities of the intern include participating in campaign management, writing and coordinating various types of web pages, media releases, receiving and making phone calls, participating in brand management and social media. This intern reports to the IT Client Engagement Manager.
