FAQs

No. You are allowed to work on campus as an F-1 student up to 20 hours per week while school is in session and over 20 hours per week during semester breaks, and prior authorization is not required. If you have a question about whether your job location qualifies as on campus, please contact our office.
Students are not permitted to work on-campus during the 60-day grace period or while an OPT application is pending. Students who have completed a program and are admitted to a subsequent program for the following semester are permitted to work on-campus between programs.
F-1 students are not permitted to work more than 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters, even if you work less than 20 hours per week sometimes. Students may work more than 20 hours per week during the annual summer vacation and during winter break.
Yes. However, the total number of hours worked each week for all jobs must not exceed 20 hours per week. For example, if you have 2 on campus jobs, you could work 10 hours per week at each job, or 15 hours at one job and 5 hours at the other, etc.
That depends. If your on campus job relates to your major field of study, you have already been approved for OPT, and you have received your EAD card, you can continue to work on campus after you graduate. If your on campus job relates to your major field of study but you have not yet been approved for OPT, you must stop working until your OPT is approved and you receive your EAD card. If your on campus job does not relate to your major field of study, it will not meet the OPT job requirements.
