Next Steps for Admitted F-1 Students

Congratulations on your admission to Marshall!

We are excited to welcome you to the Marshall family! If you need to obtain a Form I-20 and F-1 visa to study at Marshall, be sure to follow steps below after you are admitted.

If you are ready to apply to Marshall, please review the Admission Checklist and submit the Online Application.

Need to transfer your current I-20 to Marshall?

If you have an active Form I-20 with another school in the U.S., please be sure to contact the DSO at the school to request a SEVIS transfer and complete the Request for Transfer-In I-20 form.  Be prepared to provide copies of all Forms I-20, F-1 visa, passport, I-94, and financial documentation.

Form I-20 Checklist

Prepare your supporting financial documentation, including the Affidavit of Support.  For information about the types of financial documents we accept, please review the Preparing Financial Documentation handout. 
Submit the Request for New Initial I-20 or DS-2019 and upload your supporting financial documentation and passport with this request form.
Receive your new Form I-20 by email or via one of our delivery options.
Pay the I-901 SEVIS Fee. For questions about the SEVIS fee, please see SEVIS Fee Frequently Asked Questions.
Apply for a student visa, if required.
Learn how to Maintain Status while in the United States.
Plan your arrival to the United States.  Remember that students entering the United States on a new, initial I-20 may enter as early as 30 days prior to the program start date. If you require an airport pick-up, please submit the Arrival Survey.  If you need to request a late arrival, please submit the Request for a Late Arrival Letter.
Check-in with the Office of International Student Services upon arrival to the United States.  All students must complete the check-in process no later than the late arrival deadline to campus.
