Abstract: Members of this panel will present a few best practices and tips for creating a more flexible and innovative Writing Intensive (W.I.) classroom, with the help of select tools and software. As W.I.-certified faculty, we are well-practiced in designing writing-based opportunities for learning in the college classroom. Even our best pedagogical practices, however, have been tested by the special conditions and challenges created by the pandemic. Drs. Rachael Peckham and Jana Tigchelaar along with Professors Sabrina Jones and Nathan Rucker will reflect on some specific changes they’ve made to their pedagogy, incorporating various technological tools and resources in the college classroom. We’ll talk about how to guide students in scripting a podcast episode out of an existing research essay; how to use Adobe Spark to create digital commonplace book projects; how to use Microsoft Sway for flexible and creative digital writing projects; as well as how to incorporate photo and film projects of varying scale. Attendants will leave the presentation with some practical tools to implement in their own classes as well as sample assignments they can adapt to their discipline.
