BUSN 280 – SpTp: International Travel – Hannah Merritt, online

This course provides a comprehensive guide to planning a successful and safe trip abroad. Students will learn how to choose destinations wisely, navigate cultural norms, manage travel expenses, and handle logistics such as transportation, food, and water safety.

BUSN 280 – SpTp: AI for Innovation – Olen York, online

This course explores how artificial intelligence enhances creativity and drives innovation across various fields. Students will learn how AI tools can generate ideas, streamline processes, and support creative problem-solving. Through hands-on projects, they will experiment with AI-powered technologies to enhance their work and thinking. BUSN 280 SpTp: Think and Innovate – Tracy Christofero, online

BUSN 280 – SpTp: Business Advocacy – Amanda Thompson-Abbott, face to face

This course will provide insight into what it takes to gain support (lobby) for issues that are brought before the legislature. Students will follow a particular issue that is being brought before the WV State Legislature during the Spring Semester and learn the “ins” and “out” of advocacy. They will learn the best way to make their voices heard.

Second Half of Semester

BUSN 280 – SpTp: Excel 1 – Susan Lanham, online

This introductory course provides undergraduate students with foundational skills in Microsoft Excel. Topics include spreadsheet navigation, data entry, formatting, basic formulas and functions, chart creation, and data organization. Students will learn to use Excel for problem-solving, data analysis, and professional document preparation. No prior experience with Excel is required. 

BUSN 280 – SpTp: Tax Basics for Life – Tom Norton, online

This course provides a practical introduction to personal income taxes for non-accountants. Students will learn how to prepare their own tax returns, understand key tax concepts, and utilize tax software like TurboTax. The course covers income reporting, deductions, credits, and filing requirements to help students maximize refunds and avoid common mistakes. By the end, students will have the confidence to file their own taxes efficiently and accurately.

BUSN 280 – SpTp: Fund your Biz Idea – Alan Letton, online

This course equips students with the knowledge and tools to secure funding for their business ideas. Topics include bootstrapping, crowdfunding, loans, grants, and attracting investors. Students will learn how to craft compelling pitches, develop financial strategies, and navigate funding options. By the end, they will have a clear roadmap to turn their ideas into reality.

BUSN 280 – SpTp: Build Your Brand – Kevin Levine, online

This course teaches students how to create, develop, and grow a strong personal or business brand. Students will explore key branding elements, including identity, messaging, audience engagement, and digital presence. They will learn strategies to establish a unique and memorable brand in a competitive market. By the end, students will have the tools to build and sustain a compelling brand.

BUSN 280 – SpTp: Eco Innovation Lab – Margie Phillips, online

In this Ecology and Sustainability Innovation Lab, students will work in teams to develop innovative solutions to real-world sustainability challenges. This hands-on approach encourages creativity, collaboration, and practical problem-solving skills.

BUSN 280 – SpTp: Biz Sports Betting – Lei Ouyang, online

This course introduces the fundamentals of sports betting, focusing on how odds are calculated, how bookmakers generate profits, and the strategies those that bet use to gain an edge. Students will explore real-world betting markets and gain insight into the economics behind the sportsbook industry.

Topics include the basics of betting odds, payout calculations, risk management, arbitrage betting, data-driven approaches to wagering, and advanced betting strategies such as arbitrage betting.

BUSN 280 – SpTp: Finance for Life – Tom Norton, online

Learn the essentials of budgeting, saving, and managing personal finances with confidence. This course helps you build practical financial habits to plan for both short-term goals and long-term stability.

BUSN 280 – SpTp: Eco Fashion Fix – Liz Alexander, face to face

Students will learn about the impact of fast fashion on the environment, labor, the waste stream, and in their closet.  Save money and practice slowing down fast fashion in your closet through clothing care and repair.
