Congratulations on your acceptance to Marshall University! Based on your outstanding academic performance as reported to the university, we are pleased to invite you to join the Honors College. Joining the college will enhance your experience at Marshall as you pursue your degree. You’ll have your major program in another college, but you are provided with a number of distinct benefits for accepting our invitation to join the mission of honors education at Marshall University and by maintaining good standing as a member. These benefits include the following:
- Merit-based scholarships. This includes a $500/year scholarship for all students admitted to the college.
- Valuable experiential learning opportunities and interesting interdisciplinary seminars in upper-division honors courses.
- Honors House living in the First Year Residence Halls & Willis Hall.
- Early course registration privileges.
- Smaller, more intimate classes in HON and most honors-designated departmental courses.
- Opportunities for travel support to present at conferences or study abroad.
- Membership in the Honors College Student Association (HCSA).
- Extended library borrowing.
- A flexible workspace with printing and a study lounge.
- Graduating with University Honors through the Honors College, which is recognized on a student’s transcript, at the Elizabeth Gibson Drinko Honors Convocation, and with awarded Honors Medallion that can be worn at graduation.
Please be aware that in order to remain in good standing in the Honors College, you must be enrolled full-time in a bachelor’s degree program and must continue to meet the following satisfactory progress benchmarks. You can learn more about requirements on our advising page.
- Attend a First Year Check-In meeting with an advisor in the college during your first semester at Marshall.
- Earn an overall GPA of at least 3.00 at the end of your first semester at Marshall and, thereafter, maintain an overall GPA of 3.30.
- Complete a minimum of 6 honors-designated credits in your first 2 semesters at Marshall.
- Register for and complete HON 200 in the spring of your second year at Marshall.
- Honors students are required to complete a total of 24 honors designated credit-hours.
