– Statement from Marshall University regarding passing of Jan Vineyard

Marshall University’s Lewis College of Business (LCOB) released a statement today about the passing of longtime supporter and community advocate, Janet Smith Vineyard.
Bob Simpson, interim dean of the college, said: “Jan Vineyard will be missed by everyone who knew her, and especially by the Marshall University Lewis College of Business. She was a strong leader and valuable member of our LCOB Advisory Board. Her generosity and legacy of involvement will benefit students of the college for many years to come. Her death was very sad news and is a loss to the Marshall University community. The Lewis College of Business family extends its sympathy to her family in their time of grief. Our hearts and prayers go out to the Vineyard family and their friends.”
Marshall President Jerome Gilbert tweeted from his Twitter account: “Sad to hear of the passing of Jan Vineyard, a true #daughterofmarshall. She was a good friend to Marshall University and a fine person.”
Vineyard held an A.S. in retailing, B.B.A. in marketing and transportation and an M.B.A. from Marshall. While at Marshall, she was a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority. Read More

– Mukherjee appointed dean of Lewis College of Business

Marshall University Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Gayle Ormiston today announced that following a national search, Dr. Avinandan “Avi” Mukherjee has been appointed dean of the university’s Lewis College of Business.
Mukherjee, who is currently the dean of the College of Business and professor of marketing and international business at Clayton State University in Atlanta, will assume his new position July 1.
“I am delighted to welcome Dr. Mukherjee to Marshall,” said Ormiston. “He emerged as the clear choice during the search process and I am confident he will take the Lewis College of Business to new heights.”
As dean at Clayton State, Mukherjee has overseen robust growth in enrollment and endowments; the creation of a number of new international partnerships; and successful five-year Maintenance of Accreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International. He also established a new administrative structure; seven new academic programs, including M.B.A. concentrations in human resource leadership and sports and entertainment management, as well as executive development programs and post-MBA certificates.
