Marshall University Information Technology (MUIT) understands how important reliable WiFi is for your research, job function, studies, and daily activities on campus. If you are experiencing difficulties with the university’s WiFi network or are encountering general computer performance issues, we recommend taking the following steps to assess and address the problem:
Step 1: Update Your Device’s BIOS and System Drivers
Manufacturers of computers and other devices regularly release updates that improve security, connectivity, system stability and overall device performance. Please check with the manufacturer of your device and ensure your BIOS, device drivers, and system software is updated to their latest recommended versions.
Windows Devices
MacOS Devices
iPhone and iPad (iPadOS)
Apple TV
Android Devices
Step 2: Confirm that you are connecting to the correct WiFi network
After performing the above updates, please remove or forget all Marshall Wi-Fi networks; MU WiFi, MU Guest, MU DeviceNet and eduroam.
For Faculty, Staff and Students using the devices listed Step 1, MU WiFi is the preferred network. It is faster, more secure, and finely tuned for the best performance on the university network.
**Important**: Please use your full email address (user@marshall.edu) in the username field when connecting to MU WiFi or eduroam. This will ensure proper identification and access roles across the traditional and new software defined networks.
Step 3: Housing and Residence Life Spaces
For issues connecting to the network in any of the residence life spaces, please confirm that the devices are connecting to the MU HRL network. Instructions to connect to that network can be found at www.marshall.edu/it/hrlwifi.
Step 4: Contact IT Support (if needed)
We appreciate your cooperation in keeping your devices optimized for the best network experience. If you have a device not listed above or if you have completed the steps above and continue to experience WiFi issues, our MUIT team is here to help!
