Marshall Journal of Medicine & MDS

Share

JCESOM & MU Libraries look forward to sharing an exciting milestone with the Marshall community: The first issue of Marshall Journal of Medicine is being published using the Marshall Digital Scholar platform.  Marshall Journal of Medicine (MJM) is a peer-reviewed journal published by Marshall University’s Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine.  The first issue of MJM will be launched on Oct. 29, 2015 and can be accessed at mds.marshall.edu/mjm.  A celebration will be hosted on the same day from 4-5:00 pm in the JCESOM Health Science Library.

MJM is an online-only, open access, peer reviewed journal that is expected to debut next week.  MJM will work to promote excellence in the practice of Appalachian rural health medicine, health informatics, clinical translation research, and closely related fields.  “Digital Technology may have posted new challenges for traditional scholarly publications. However, it is also creating new opportunities, particularly for online collaboration among researchers,” said Darshana Shah, Ph.D., Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Professional Development and Editor-in-Chief of the Marshall Journal of Medicine.  Approach to health care is becoming integrated and interdisciplinary. Therefore, MJM is establishing itself as a new journal with the broadest possible array of outstanding content, encompassing all aspects of comprehensive health care.

Marshall Digital Scholar (MDS) is MU’s institutional digital repository that supports open access or subscription-based journals.  Journals can have their own customized design, and can include a variety of additional features such as access control and editorial management.  This allows for workflows to be easily customized and editors to control their journal settings and policies.

MDS also simplifies and expedites the peer-review process by tracking submission and referee activity, automatically emailing appropriate reminders, and providing a mechanism for anonymous correspondence between reviewer and author. Editors and authors receive regular reports on their article downloads automatically from MDS.

If your school/college/unit would like to publish a journal with MDS please contact Jingping Zhang, Professor, University Librarian/Director of Libraries Operations zhangj@marshall.edu or the MDS team at mds@marshall.edu.
