Marshall University’s College of Arts and Media kicks off the 2018 Birke Fine Arts Symposium Saturday, Feb. 3, and continues with a celebration of the arts through Thursday, March 1. Artists from a variety of disciplines will present work as part of the symposium. This year’s theme is “What’s Next: the Arts in Times of
Marshall University’s School of Music will host a solo recital and master class with guest tenor Paul Han. Han, a professor at Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana, will offer a master class for voice students at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, and perform at 7:30 p.m. that evening at Smith Recital Hall.
The Jazz Department in Marshall University’s School of Music will continue its Jazz Night at The Press Club concert/performance series beginning the evening of Wednesday, Jan. 24, at the Press Club, 1212 Fourth Ave.
Marshall University’s 2018 Edwards Distinguished Professor guest scholar Dr. Christopher Hainsworth, organist and harpsichordist, will perform two upcoming concerts in Huntington.

German pianist Hinrich Alpers has been named the Joan C. Edwards Distinguished Professor in the Arts at Marshall University and will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, in Smith Recital Hall on Marshall’s Huntington campus.
The Violauta Duo of Wendell Dobbs on the flute and Júlio Ribeiro Alves on the guitar will perform a joint faculty recital, “Rossiniana 2,” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, in Studio 143 of the Smith Music Building at Marshall University.
The Marshall University Choral Union, a community-collaborative choral ensemble, begins a new semester of music Monday, Jan 8. The ensemble is open to singers of all ages from within the university and the surrounding communities. Auditions are not required, but prior choral experience is expected.
