German pianist Hinrich Alpers has been named the Joan C. Edwards Distinguished Professor in the Arts at Marshall University and will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, in Smith Recital Hall on Marshall’s Huntington campus.

The Violauta Duo of Wendell Dobbs on the flute and Júlio Ribeiro Alves on the guitar will perform a joint faculty recital, “Rossiniana 2,” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, in Studio 143 of the Smith Music Building at Marshall University.

The Marshall University Choral Union, a community-collaborative choral ensemble, begins a new semester of music Monday, Jan 8. The ensemble is open to singers of all ages from within the university and the surrounding communities. Auditions are not required, but prior choral experience is expected.

The Marshall University School of Music will present the season’s last MUsic Mondays lecture Monday, Dec. 11, at the Cellar Door, 905 Third Ave. in Huntington.

Marshall University’s Choral Union will present a holiday concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church at 1124 Fifth Avenue in Huntington.

Marshall University’s School of Music will welcome Puerto Rican guitarist Dr. José Maldonado for a recital and master class this month. An active performer and professor in New York City since 2012, Maldonado will perform on historical and modern instruments at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, in Marshall’s Jomie Jazz Forum on the Huntington campus.

Students in Marshall University’s Jazz Ensemble I will perform the holiday favorite, “The Nutcracker Suite,” at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 8, in Smith Recital Hall.

Marshall University’s School of Music will present West Virginia Symphony principal flutist Lindsey Goodman with the Leviathan Trio in concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, in Smith Music Recital Hall on Marshall’s Huntington campus. The program will feature George Crumb’s “Vox Balaenae.”
